Your spouse’s booming snores could be due to a dry house!

It is that time of year again! The heat is on, the noses are running, and your spouse is snoring louder than a foghorn on a cloudy day. Now that the holidays are behind us and we are entering into the, “Is it spring yet?”, mentality, it might be time to test the moisture levels in your home before winter’s fun little quirks become more than you can handle.

Here are some signs your home might be dry and suffering from winter’s wrath.
  1. Static electricity: your home is fighting back via the transfer of static electricity! Look out!
  2. Breathing troubles: waking up constantly from a loving smack in the head from your spouse because your throat is dryer than normal and you can’t stop snoring.
  3. Dry skin and chapped lips: there isn’t enough lotion in the world!
  4. Warping wood and cracking paint: now your home is really cross with you, better get it tested.
Get yourself a hygrometer.

It is very simple to check your home’s moisture levels. A hygrometer, like its cousin the thermometer, measures moisture rather than temperature. A happy home will land between the 30 and 50 percent mark. As we are in the thick of winter, it is most likely your problem would have you reading below 30 percent. If you did, you are in luck! There are solutions! If not, and your spouse still snores like a sleep deprived trucker, we apologize, we cannot offer advice on this matter. Good-luck and maybe try some breath-right strips…

Anyway! Solutions!

Buying a whole-house humidifier.

This is the surefire way to fix this problem. A whole-house humidifier can be installed directly onto your heating system. This device will add moisture to the warm air, delivering it through the duct system to your entire home.

Whats better is that this can actually save you money! Homes with higher humidity feel warmer (think of how much hotter you feel near the beach) and you and your family will be more comfortable at lower temperatures.

You can have your home analyzed by a professional to find out if a whole house humidifier is the answer for your family’s dry home needs.

Not ready to commit to a whole-house humidifier?

Fear not! There are several easy as pie DIY solutions you can try first.

  1. Buy a houseplant. Placing Mother Nature’s decor in a dry room and spraying it with water once a day could help.
  2. Boil water on your stove top. The steam can release excess moisture.
  3. Leave your bathroom door open while showering. Unfortunately you won’t get to draw fun pictures on your mirror but all that steam can be put to better use.
  4. Line dry your clothing. After washing, place your damp clothes in dryer rooms of your house, it can help spread the moisture.

Whatever solution you try, don’t let a dry home add to your post-Santa winter blues. A dry home causes discomfort and can even damage your home and belongings. Get help today!

Joe, is one of the best servicemen that Jackson Comfort has. He is extremely knowledgeable, friendly & courteous, listens to me, explains the details of what he is checking, and always does a thorough job. Today he did the annual check on my A/C system. I have full confidence that my unit is in top shape for the next year.

Wow great job overall. Very professional with a great system for contacting you with when the technician is arriving. Brian was fantastic quick and went over everything before he did it. Punctual, thorough and job was done perfectly. AC unit which I neglected was running like a new system and not pricey at all.

It was a pleasure having Matt service our equipment. He was on time and explained everything he did. He took care to protect our hardwood floors while he worked. Jackson Comfort has been taking care of our unit for over 15 years. Thank you to everyone at Jackson and especially Matt for such great service.

Been using Jackson for 10 years. Always on time, friendly and not pushy. They use modern technology to confirm appointments and send reminders (email and text). I also like that I received a color image of the service tech via text when he was en route to our home. That way I know it is actually him.
